Obituary

Petoskey News-Review, Monday, November 9, 2009:

Adelaide “Addie” Cabinaw, 94

Adelaide “Addie” Cabinaw, 94, longtime resident of Pellston, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at Bortz Health Care in Petoskey.

She was born Viva Iola McDonald on Jan. 17, 1915 at home in Bliss, to Orville and Phebe (Shinn) McDonald. The family moved to Petoskey and then Harbor Springs, where Addie, as she became known, grew up and attended school.

On Sept. 19, 1936 she married Henry E. Cabinaw. Henry sadly preceded Addie in death in 1957.

Addie was a wonderful mother and grandmother and her children will forever be grateful to her for the many sacrifices she made for the sake of her family. But to Addie it all came natural and she would never have looked at anything she gave up for her family as a sacrifice.

Addie was a wonderful cook and put her skills to use in the kitchens of the Dam Site Inn and Anderson’s Restaurant in Pellston. She had a gift for arts and crafts and enjoyed crochet. Addies years working at the Friendship Center of Emmet County were very special to her, she made many close friends while there and was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.

Addie is survived by her children, Lucius (Rose) Cabinaw of Brutus, Betty Lee DeLorme and Kathy Siler both of Pellston and Dave (Sherry) Cabinaw of Blissfield and 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Addie’s sister, Lillie McMichael of Cheboygan and sisters in law, Ardith McDonald and Carol Champion, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Addie joins her loved ones, husband, Henry, son, Patrick, step son, Henry C. Cabinaw, brothers, Gordon, Lee, and Robert McDonald and sisters, Betty McDonald and Leota Boda, as well as her sons in law, William Siler and Harvey DeLorme.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Clement’s Catholic Church in Pellston, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass celebrating her life will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the church. Interment will take place within McKinley Township Cemetery in Pellston.
