Arthur E. Emmons, 90

Arthur E. Emmons, 90, of Charlevoix, passed away at his home on Aug. 20, 2009.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. A private burial service will be in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.

He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Muskegon, to C. Lewis and Maud (Wagley) Emmons. Art graduated from Pellston High School, and served in the U.S. Army 75th Infantry in Europe during World War II. Advertisement

He married Helen J. Light in Norwood, and they made their home in Charlevoix where Art worked for Kroger, having also worked for Kroger in Benton Harbor. Most of his life, he worked for Charlevoix Abstract and Engineering; retiring at age 65, he continued to work part time until he was 80.

Art loved to travel and had visited more than 43 countries.

He solved crossword puzzles and enjoyed music. Art loved all of his cats, especially Sister, who was always by his side during his last illness.

Art is survived by his wife, Helen, of Charlevoix; daughter, Deborah Emmons, of Central Lake; son, Mark (Susan) Emmons, of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother-in-law, George (Marian) Light, of Norwood; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Michigan, the Charlevoix Humane Society, Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Dialysis Center, Charlevoix Area Hospital, the Charlevoix County Commission on Aging, or the Charlevoix Senior Center.
