Alfred Paul Robison, 101 years old, died March 30, 2003 in the Fillmore Hospital where he had come home two years ago to be in the country he grew up in and loved.
Paul was the son of J. Alfred and Mattie Keith Robison. He was born September 26, 1901 in Ophir, Utah. He was two years old when the family moved to Fillmore where Paul grew up with seven younger brothers and sisters (one brother died shortly after he was born). He graduated from Millard High School and attended Brigham Young Academy and later graduated from the Los Angeles, California Embalming College.
After graduating from Millard High School he traveled and worked in many places. He and several friends from Fillmore worked at McIntyre Ranch in Holleck, NV. He helped build the Clamea Steel Plant in Provo, UT. He worked for the U.P. Railroad in McGill and Las Vegas, NV. He became owner and funeral director in Los Angeles for 40 years. He retired in Fillmore.
Paul was a natural athlete. At Brigham Young Academy he set a record in foot racing. A "southpaw", he became an outstanding boxer, traveling with Ira Dern, the middle-weight champion of the world. He boxed the semi-finals for the main bouts, never losing a fight.
Paul married Ann Hood on October 24, 1924 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ann died in July 1957. Paul later married Anna Dean Chesley Davies who died in July 1995. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father, five brothers and three sisters.
Paul is survived by one daughter and one son: Mattie Ann Robison Callister Abrams, Logan; and Paul Easton Robison (Dorothy) Salt Lake City; also six grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great- grandchildren, all of whom made him very happy as he loved children. He also loved and was loved by Anna Dean's children: Chesley Davies, Beverly Groesbeck, Shirlene Davies, and Fred Davies. He became "Grandpa" to their children and grandchildren whom he also loved dearly.
A viewing will be held at Olpin Southern Utah Mortuary in Fillmore, UT, Thursday, April 3, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Fillmore City Cemetery.
