Article

Lansing State Journal, Thursday, August 22, 1935, page 2:

PETOSKEY. Aug. 22 Summer visitors in Michigan's north country witnessed a novel entertainment Wednesday night when the skating program of last winter's ice carnival was repeated on a specially constructed rink. Rusa Jones and Grace Harvey, featured in a skating exhibition at the Century of Progress exposition, supplemented the program staged by the Michigan skaters. The highlights of the 1935 winter program were presented by Jeannie Dombroski, Mabel Johansen, Clifford Crick and John Deishmeier, senior champions; Jane Upton, toe dancer; Katherine Gibson and Harold Guillaume, Junior champions; Virginia Crawford, acrobatic skater; Merton Carter, skating clown, and Jane Ellen North, baby figure skating champion. A chemical ice covering a plank and canvas floor was used for the first time in the history of northern Michigan.
