Petoskey News-Review, Tuesday, 26 Apr 2005:
Dr. Dale Allerding, D.V.M., of Ridge Road, Windsor, Maine, died unexpectedly at his home on April 23, 2005.
He was born in Harbor Springs, on April 14, 1947, to Claude R. and Ardis (Bonter) Allerding. He was predeceased by his father, Claude R. Allerding, in 1983.
Upon graduating from Harbor Springs High School, Dr. Allerding further pursued his studies at Ferris State University while eventually earning his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Michigan State University.
In 1974, Dr. Allerding moved to Maine and was employed by the Maine State Department of Agriculture in the poultry industry before opening his own practice in 1981. He operated the Windsor Veterinary Clinic for more than 22 years, specializing in the care of large, small and exotic animals. In 2003, he retired from his practice, yet continued his work with large animals from all over the state of Maine.
In 1998, Dr. Allerding and his wife, Lynn, opened another business, Windsor Tables and Bowls, located in their newly renovated barn. Inside their shop one would find many of Dr. Allerding's own handcrafted creations inspired by his lifelong love of woodworking and carving.
Not only an avid golfer, Dr. Allerding also loved the game of tennis and was a member of the Augusta Country Club as well as the U.S. Tennis Association. He also was a member of the Maine State Veterinarian Association.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn M. (Freeman) Allerding, formerly of Brunswick, Maine; a son, Jason Allerding, daughter, Kate Allerding, and grandson, Shanon Allerding, all of Portland, Maine; his mother, Ardis (Bonter) Allerding, of Petoskey; a sister, Linda Kasuske, her husband Harvey Kasuske, their two children, Mike Kasuske and Kristi Hansen, and their families, all of Michigan.
Dr. Allerding was known for his love of all animals, especially his own. He was predeceased by his beloved pug, Millie, and is survived by his other dogs, Annie, Spots, Winnie Minnie, Iris, Emma, Pugsley, J.J. and Sally, whom he loved very much.
As Dr. Allerding was a parishioner of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Summer Street, Augusta, Maine, a memorial Mass will be celebrated there at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27. There will be no public visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Augusta, Maine.
Arrangements are under the direction of Plummer Funeral Home, Windsor Chapel, 983 Ridge Road, Windsor, Maine.
Condolences may be expressed via the funeral home Web site at www.plummerfh.com.
