Doris L. (Taylor) Troup, 79

Doris L. (Taylor) Troup, 79, of Harbor Springs, died Feb. 23, 1993, at her son's home in Petoskey.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Main Street Baptist Church in Harbor Springs. The Rev. James Sweet of McBain will officiate.

She was born Jan. 9, 1914, in Harbor Springs, the daughter of Arthur and Maude (Swift) Gleason.

She attended Harbor Springs schools then moved to Charlevoix, graduating from Charlevoix High School in 1932.

She married Howard Taylor in 1933 in Charlevoix. He preceded her in death in 1966.

She was employed as a cook for the Sidney Gamble family of Harbor Point for 47 years. She married Isaac Troup in 1970 in Harbor Springs and he preceded her in death in 1971.

She served as a teacher's aide at North Central Christian Academy for five years. She was known for her love of the Bible and committed to memory many scripture passages.

She was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church of Harbor Springs and served as choir director and youth director for 20 years, as well as Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include two children, Robert Taylor and his wife Kay of Petoskey, and Janice Lambert of Harbor Springs; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, the Rev. Clare Gleason of Cannonsburg, Mich. In addition to her husband's, Howard Taylor and Isaac Troup, she was preceded in death by three sons, Dean, Jack and Stanley Taylor, and one sister, Ruby Davis.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the Charles G. Parks Funeral Home in Petoskey, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church in Harbor Springs.. Memorials may be directed in her name to the Main Street Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.

Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home and at the church.
