Earl E. Johnston, 81

Earl E. Johnston, 81, of Petoskey, died May 1, 1984, at Little Traverse Division of Northern Michigan Hospitals.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Stone Funeral Home, Petoskey. Rev. Larry Staton of the First Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bliss Township Cemetery, Levering.

Mr. Johnston was born March 24, 1903, in Bliss Township, the son of Perry and Anne Johnston. He attended school in Bliss and on Jan. 3, 1927, married the former Nila C. Deits in Lansing. The couple have resided in Petoskey since their marriage.

Mr. Johnston worked as a foreman for the Emmet County Road Commission, retiring in 1960 after 40 years of service.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2462, Petoskey.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Lynne R. Saunders of Petoskey; five grandchildren, Michael, Kelli, Lauri, Jodi and Thomas Earl; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stuart Johnston of Levering and Lyle Johnston of Carp Lake.

The family suggests memorials to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. Envelopes for that purpose may be obtained at Stone Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 3.
