  • The Canadian Statesman, September 14, 1892, p. 5:
The following taken from the Lexington, Mich., Jeffersonian will interest a number of our readers as Mr. Arnot was once a resident of Darlington and is an uncle to Mr. Albert Arnot of Enniskillen and Mssrs Jesse, Levi and John Arnot of Taunton. "For a number of years it has been the custom of Mr. R. J. Arnot to have a family gathering on the anniversary of his birth. At these gatherings only his own children are admitted, no grandchildren or other relatives allowed.
On Saturday last, however, occurred a picnic, at which all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were allowed to be present, on this occasion there were present Mrs. Barny Vannest and eight children, of Croswell, Mr. Ira Arnot and five children, of Lexington, Mr. Cephas Arnot and seven children, of Croswell, Mr. Silas Arnot and two children, of Jeddo, Mr. George Arnot and four children, of Lexington, and Mrs. W. O. Randall, of Pt. Huron, making all six children and twenty-six grandchildren; there were also present six great- great grandchildren. The family seems unbroken as not a single death has occurred in more than twenty years. These picnics will be held annually. As a souvenir of the occasion last Saturday Mr. Arnot presented each one with a dollar.
