James J. House was born in New York on the 16th of February 1801 to Lemuel and Sarah House.

James was married first to an unknown woman and had a daughter Maria who married James Talbott. Maria says her father James House was of Holland Dutch extraction, with the Houses being among the early settlers of New York with the majority of James relatives still residing in New York.

On December 1, 1828 he married Tryphena Malcolm in London at Brantford Gore, Brant, Ontario, Canada.

They had 11 children: Daniel, Joseph, Peter, Nancy, Finley, Lemuel, Jeremiah, Chauncey F., John House, Rebecca Jane and Almira House.

James moved to Buell Township, Sanilac, Michigan the 1st of February 1862. James was a Farmer and Carpenter by trade.

He died the 3rd of October 1894 in Elk Township, Sanilac, Michigan at age 93 years, 7 months and 15 days old.
