Finley House, farmer, section 25, Buel Township, was born Aug. 1, 1839, in Oxford County, Canada, and is the son of James J. and Triphena (Malcolm) House. The former was born in the State of New York, of Pennsyvania Dutch descent, and is now a resident of Buel Township. He is 83 years of age. The mother died Jan. 28, 1884, and at the time of her death was 73 years old. She was born in Canada, of Scotch parentage. The family included eight sons and four daughters, as follows: Daniel, Joseph (died from the results of hardship in the army); Peter (died while in the army); Lemuel; Jeremiah (died in the army); Chauncey, John (died at the age of six years); Maria (deceased); Nancy, Rebecca, and Almira (deceased).
