Obituary

Harbor Light, 9 May 2012

Joseph P. Bodzick 93 of Harbor Springs. The angels peacefully took Joseph home on May 4, 2012 while his loving family was at his side.

He was born March 19, 1919 to Joseph P. and Katherine E. (Swiech) in Center Twp.

As a young man, Joe enjoyed playing his guitar and singing country western music on local radio stations. His early years were spent working on the family farm. He later moved to Harbor Springs.

On Oct. 7, 1944 he married Alice Hartung. Joe took up carpentry as taught by his father-in-law, George Hartung. After many years of hard work he retired and finally had time for his woodworking, gardening, rock polishing, wine making, music and soup making. Joe was a member of Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church and the Harbor Springs Firefighters (retired).

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Alice; son Jeffrey and granddaughter Jenny and all eight of his siblings.

He is survived by his children Sue (Jim) Richards, Marge (Bill) Owen, Ted (Kathy) Bodzick, daughter-in-law Karen Bodzick, sister-inlaw Stasia Bodzick and his special companion Sadie Mae, his dedicated golden retriever. Also surviving are his grandchildren Katie (Dan) Allore, Kara (John) Munro, Heather (Dave) Testa, Mike (Maureen) Owen, Dave (Randi) Owen, Christopher Bodzick, Becca (Shalin) Sanghvi, Jeffrey Bodzick, Jr., 18 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family offers special thanks to Bill O’Brien, Dick Keller, Al Spencley Sr., Ed Stolt, Brett Swiss and the loving care givers Jeanine, Sherrie, Lori, Tami, Ashley, Ali, Jennifer and Judy.

The family suggests that memorial donations be directed to the Jeffrey P. Bodzick Scholarship Foundation, Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or Friendship Center Meals on Wheels.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday May 12, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Holy Childhood Church. Fr. Joseph Graff will be the celebrant. Friends may call at the church beginning at 12:30 PM.
