Lloyd Aden Benson was born August 28th, 1881 in Edison (formerly Levering Station), Morrow County, Ohio as the third child of Clinton Burkley Benson and Leah Billett. He married Daisy May Weaver, daughter of Leonard Weaver and Lucinda Parks, on January 21st, 1900 in Morrow County. His older brother William, and older sister Garnie, both married on the same day, October 18th, 1896, to other children of Leonard and Lucinda Weaver. Three siblings from the Benson family were united with three siblings of the Weaver family. Benson-Weaver family reunions of descendants of these unions, were held until the 1970's.
Lloyd and Daisy had five children, four surviving to adulthood. They were Roy Arvine Benson (b. 25 Aug 1900), Willard Ernest Benson (b. 24 Oct 1902), Nellie Benson (b. 30 Jul 1904), Virgil O. Benson (b. 12 Jan 1906) and Pearl Benson (b. 17 Jul 1912). Little boy Pearl died at the age of six during the great flu epidemic of 1918. He is buried in Glendale Cemetery, Cardington, Morrow, Ohio. Buried next to him, in unmarked graves, are his grandparents, Clinton Burkley and Leah (Billett) Benson.
His wife Daisy divorced him in Huron County, Ohio in 1922, case #11006, Court of Common Pleas. She asserted that he took all the posessions from their home to sell it for alcohol and left her destitute. Lloyd remarried February 14th, 1925 to Mary Evelina Hemminger. He was 43 at the time of the marriage, and she was 19. On the marriage license in Monroe County, Michigan, he stated his age as 38 and as residing in Marion, Ohio. Mary was of the same generation as were his children from his first marriage.
Four children were born from his marriage with Mary. They were: Leo Richard Benson, Paul Aden Benson, Dorothy Jean and David Arthur. They lived in Marion, Ohio, and during the depression he worked off and on at Marion Shovel, a manufacturer of the worlds's largest steam shovels. Records indicate that he was a machinist.
Mary sued for, and was granted, a divorce in Morrow County, Ohio in 1953. Following this divorce, he married again (woman unknown) but was divorced a month or so later. Lloyd subsequently married Laura Mae Garver, daughter of Cornelius and Mary E. Garver, and remained with her until his death.
Lloyd was known as a hard worker. He lived with his first family in Cardington, Morrow, Ohio, and after his marriage to Mary Hemminger, he remained a resident of Marion, Marion, Ohio the balance of his life. He died of cancer at the age of 84 on February 16th, 1966. The funeral was held two days later at a church near his trailer park home in Marion. Burial was at Rivercliff Cemetery, Mount Gilead, Ohio, adjacent to Laura's family. Laura was buried by his side in 1974. Near the end of Lloyd's life he expressed regret for the way he had maltreated the women in his life.
