Petoskey News-Review, October 1999
Lucille A. (Crum) Engler died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Bortz Health Care of petoskey.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. Pastor Leroy Sutfin will officiate. Her remains will be cremated and her ashes placed next to her husband, Floyd, in Greenwood Cemetery.
Lucille was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Flint, to Elmer Crum and Mabel Small.
In 1936, she married George Satmary Sr., in Detroit and moved to the Petoskey area in the 1940's. In 1952, she married Floyd Engler in Petoskey and he preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1988.
Lucille is survived by her five children, George Satmary Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Hammond, Ind., Richard Satmary and his wife, Karen, of Petoskey, Claudia Satmary Ritchie and her husband, Bob, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Laura Engler Cherven and her husband, Drew, of Petoskey, and Craig Engler and his wife, Laura, of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; her sister, Laura DeLooze, of Mount Morris; her sister, Mildred Fuller, of Detroit; her brother-in-law, Mike Satmary Sr. and his wife, Dorothy, of St. Clair Shores; her brother-in-law, Charles Engler, of Harbor Springs; and her sister-in-law and dear friend, Nellie Engler, of Petoskey. Her sixth great-grandchild is due on her birthday, Feb. 8, in the year 2000.
Although Lucille did not finish high school in her youth, she was very proud to have completed her education as an adult. She received her high schooldiploma in 1986, the same year her granddaughter Lisa graduated from High School.
She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Petoskey and taught youth Sunday school there for many years during the 1960's and '70's.
Lucille will be remembered for her years of dedication to her family and her church. Every child who grew up in her family or in her neighborhood will remember with fondness her cookie jar always full of homemade cookies, and her heart never empty of goodness. She will especially be remembered for her hospitality-- there was always room for one more at her dinner table.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that contributions be made to The Living Room Adult Day Care Services in Petoskey.
