Gary C. Bonter, 71

Gary C. Bonter, 71, of Pellston, died March 5, 2005, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

Funeral will be 11 a. m. Wednesday, March 9, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Levering.

The Rev. Matt Stoll will officiate and burial will be in McKinley Township Cemetery in Pellston.

Gary was born Sept. 19, 1933, in Center Township, the son of Daylis and Marvell (McPhall) Bonter.

He grew up in the Pellston area and attended school in Pellston, where he graduated in 1951.

Gary served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

On Sept. 18, 1953, he married Donna Nowland in Pellston.

After returning from the Navy, Gary made his home in Pellston, where he worked as a station manager for North Central Airlines which is now Northwest Airlines. He retired in 1997.

He loved to hunt and fish and loved to plow out all of his neighbors in the winter.

He was a past member of the Larks Lake Lions Club, past president of the Pellston School Board and also served on the church board.

Gary is survived by his wife, Donna; four children, Terri Johnson and husband, Lynn, of Anchorage, Alaska, Jeff Bonter and his wife, Pam, of Pellston, Jay Bonter of Pellston and Coleen Bodzick and husband, Michael, of Pellston; six grandchildren, Kelsey, Christopher, Randy, Lindsey, Megan and Abby; mother, Marvel Bonter, of Pellston; two brothers, Daylis Bonter Jr. and Danny Bonter; sisters, Doris Haven, Peggy Gokey and Joan Bonter, all of Pellston.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at New Hope United Methodist Church in Levering.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church building fund.

Arrangements are being handled by Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey.
