Petoskey News-Review, Dec 1995:

Glenn Cora "Toots" Terpening, 94

Former Harbor Springs resident Glenn Cora "Toots" Terpening, 94, died Dec. 20, 1995, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at the Schiller Funeral Chapel of Harbor Springs. The Rev. Larry Wood will officiate. Interment will take place in Friendship Township Cemetery.

She was born on July 10, 1901, in Harbor Springs, the daughter of George and Norin (Ward) Smith, an Emmet pioneer family. She attended Five Mile Creek School.

On Sept 27, 1919, she married Bemsle L. Terpening in Harbor Springs. He preceded her in death in 1986.

Mrs. Terpening lived most of her life in Harbor Springs. She was an active member of the Women's Relief Corps in Harbor Springs, and a former member of the Grange.

She enjoyed dancing, gardening, embroidery, barnyard golf and being with her family.

Mrs. Terpening entered Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan in September 1995, and prior to that time had lived in an adult foster home in East Jordan for several years.

Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Seeley & husband, Gene of East Jordan; one daughter-in-law, Joan Terpening, of Kingsley; three grandsons, David Terpening of Traverse City, Dale Seeley and his wife, Marie, of Petoskey, and Mark Terpening and his wife, Sara, of Mount Airy, Md.; two granddaughters, Debra Waterson and her husband, Clair, of Saudi Arabia and Karen Stanek and her husband, Brian, of East Jordan; eight great-grandchildren, Amber, Stephanie, and Bridget Seeley of Petoskey, Trevor and Alex Terpening of Maryland, Robert Waterson of Saudi Arabia, and Brian Jr. and Samantha Stanek of East Jordan; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Terpening was preceded in death by one son, Gordon, in January 1995; a great-granddaughter, Hanna Terpening in July 1995; and six brothers and six sisters.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Emmet County Medical Care Facility Alzheimer’s Unit, or to the Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan. Envelopes for memorials are available at the Schiller Funeral Chapel of Harbor Springs, where friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21.
