Pioneer Dies
In Harbor

Death claims one of Harbor Springs pioneer residents on Thursday morning when Mrs. Seth Terpening passed away at her home on Snyder street. She had been very ill for the past four weeks.

Born Lois Julia Barkley, in St. Lawrence County, New York, April 15, 1876, she came to Harbor Springs with her parents, the late Gordon and Sarah Barkley, in 1880. On February 1, 1893 she was married to Seth Terpening of Harbor Springs. They lived on a farm near Five Mile Creek until coming to Harbor Springs several years ago. On February 1, 1943 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Terpening was a member of the Harbor Springs grange, Little Traverse Rebekah lodge, No. 316, and the I. B. Richardson Woman's Relief corps, being a very active worker in these organizations.

She is survived by her husband and seven children, Bemsley, of Harbor Springs; Bryan and Dewey of Springport; Henry of Lansing; Daniel of Pickerel Lake; Mrs. Gordon Wilcox (Mildred) of Harbor Springs, and Hazel Terpening of Saginaw. One sister, Mrs. William Wright and a brother, Sam Barkley of Harbor Springs survive together with 17 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. G. A. Weaver of Petoskey officiating. Interment will be made in Lake View cemetery and the bearers will be her five sons and her son-in-law, Gordon Wilcox.
