Merlin Hartung
Rites Saturday

Funeral services for Merlin Hartung, 50, of Harbor Springs will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Gillian-Erwin Funeral Chapel in Harbor Springs, under the auspices of American Legion Smith-Hoover Post 281. Rev. David Crowe of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate and burial will be in Lakeview cemetery.

Mr. Hartung died Tuesday while shoveling snow in front of Fryman’s Shoe Store where he had been employed for five years.

He was born April 1, 1925 in Harbor Springs. He graduated from Harbor Springs High School and attended Lincoln College of Chiropractors in Indianapolis.

During World War II he served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include his wife Sallie; three sons, Michael of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marty of Bellvue, Ky., and Steven at home; four daughters, Julie Hartung of Bellvue, Ky., Mrs. Debbie Howard of Cincinnati, Janice and Lorraine at home; three grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Verda King of Harbor Springs.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel from noon until 9 p.m. on Friday.
