Ralph Johnston, 71

Ralph Johnston, 71, of New Port Richey, Fla., died March 8, 1993.

He was born June 24, 1921, in Levering, the son of Stanley and Margaret Johnston.

He married Betty Jane Marshall on Feb. 28, 1942, in Petoskey and she survives.

Mr. Johnston worked for the Penn-Dixie Cement Corp. in Petoskey for 31 years, retiring in 1978.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre and was wounded in Italy.

Mr. Johnston was a life member of the DAV and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the V.F.W. of New Port Richey.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; his mother, Margaret Marshall of Redford; three sons, Stanley and his wife Pat of East Jordan, John and his wife Meri-Kay of Mackinaw City, and Jim of Harbor Springs; two daughters, Shirley Fosmore and her husband Wilbur of Burt Lake, and Gloria Whipple of Muskegon; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Nellie Koesters and her husband Richard of New Port Richey; and a half brother, Richard Marshall of Redford.

A Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, at the Asbury Methodist Church in New Port Richey. Interment will be in Bliss Township Cemetery in the spring.

Arrangements were handled by the Dobie Funeral Home in Holiday, Fla.
