Petoskey News-Review, Thursday, October 6, 1977:

Richard Allerding, 71

Funeral services for Richard Allerding, 71, of Harbor Springs, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Gillian-Erwin Funeral Chapel in Harbor Springs. Rev. Becky Clockey of the Harbor Springs Presbyterian Church will officiate and interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Mr. Allerding died Oct. 5 at Lockwood-MacDonald Division of Northern Michigan Hospitals, Inc.

He was born Aug. 11, 1906 in Harbor Springs. He attended Harbor Springs schools and graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 1927. He also attended Western Michigan University for three years.

On May 30, 1931, he married the former Christine Gray in Goshen, Ind. The couple have resided in Harbor Springs since that time.

Mr. Allerding was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of the Harbor Springs Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon for a number of years. He was also a member of the Smith-Hoover Post No. 281, American Legion.

Until his retirement in 1970, Mr. Allerding had owned and operated a grocery store in Harbor Springs.

Survivors include his wife; five brothers, Claude, Nelson, Ada, Wayne and Carl, all of Harbor Springs; two sisters, Mrs. George (Gladys) Belanger of Petoskey and Mrs. Charles (Clara) Engler of Harbor Springs; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Gillian-Erwin Funeral Chapel beginning Friday afternoon.

The family suggests anyone wishing to honor the memory of Mr. Allerding, may do so by contributing in his name to the Leukemia Foundation.
